Endless Horizons Bed and Breakfast: A lodging retreat center

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

Architecture can provide an opportunity for relaxation by reflecting the forms and colors seen in nature; therefore, by using nature as a model architecture can enhance one's relaxation. Forms and colors found in nature possess relaxing qualities which through God naturally occur. The major emphasis in this thesis is that of utilizing in architecture all that God reveals in nature, and that through this example one can find tranquility. The ideal context is found anywhere nature can be appreciated, but for this facility the context is rural west Texas, near Post, atop the Caprock rim. The choice was made because of the dynamic views of the Caprock landscape and, the abundant natural features. Through the open landscape, vistas, and remoteness, one can find serenity, relaxation, and solitude. The scope of the facility is a modified bed and breakfast concept, which incorporates lodging and dining, as well as specialized features and activities to help one escape from life's daily rigors. This facility serves an area of over 400,000 people in the west Texas area, and will accommodate 40- 60 guests at one time. Accommodations will include individual suites, suites for couples, and larger facilities for families and groups. This will be arranged as a community of buildings with a Main House at the center. These buildings will group along a small peninsular area of the Caprock escarpment.
