Abstract

dc:description.abstract

You employ stone, wood and concrete and with these materials you build houses and palaces; that is Construction. Ingenuity is at work . But suddenly you touch my heart. You do me good, I am happy and I say: " This is beautiful. That is architecture" ^ - Le Corbusier This thesis is intended to explore the architecture of awakening the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimension of life with representations of humanity and nature. This is an architecture of celebrating life, which is fully active, fully awake and fully aware. Symbolically, it is a place for resting body, heart and mind. This place is called an Islamic Repose Center; where the traditional and intellectual journeys to the transcendence world are embodied in one facility and one process. The facility will be located at the Kebun Teh Muslim Cemetery, Johor Baharu, Malaysia. This thesis is attempted to prove that: - Architecture can awake the physical, emotional, and spiritual of human sensitivity. - Architecture which uses the human body, feeling, and mind effects can embody both humanity and building. - Architecture which celebrates nature can stimulate the human's mind to think about the power of their creator. - Architecture that brings human and nature together can lead to people's appreciation to their creator. - Architecture can facilitate both the traditional and modern styles of preparing the body for funeral and speed the process. Architecture can create moods for contemplation and meditation for people to feel the presence of transcendence. Architecture can assemble and integrate different social life and different generations of people together in the same activities.
