Professional learning communities and collaboration: The impact collaboration has on teachers’ beliefs on instruction

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact participation in a professional learning community has on the development of rural school Social Studies teachers. Specifically, this dissertation will compared two rural schools in East Texas. Both schools were chosen because they are at different stages of implementing their professional learning community. As such, they were prime subjects for study to examine the influence collaboration in a professional learning community have on Social Studies teachers’ in rural schools. Research was conducted utilizing a sociocultural theoretical framework to analyze how participation in a professional learning community.
