This recording combined selected Swedish folk melodies with jazz improvisation and furthered the richness of the original melodies within a duo setting. The harmonization was based on the melodies of the folk songs and expanded upon, which created a new sound profile for the folk songs. The purpose of this paper is to study the methodology of Landgren and Svensson and develop arrangements for the trombone repertoire based on Taiwanese folk songs in a similar manner. The richness of the culture and music of my native, Taiwan has been gradually noticed over the recent decades. However, a new field has not yet been explored regarding arrangements of Taiwanese folk music for Trombone, especially in the manners of Landgren and Svensson. Studying Western music has been truly a fruitful experience. Furthermore, it lit up the desire for me to utilize what I have learned to present the music of my country in a form which influenced by Western-European music and jazz. For that particular reason, the Swedish Folk Modern was truly inspirational. The document will include in-depth research and analysis on the historical background of the selected Swedish and Taiwanese folk songs. A jazz arrangement will be developed based on the selected Taiwanese folk song in order to further demonstrate the potential of Taiwanese indigenous music.","abstract_html":"The album Swedish Folk Modern (ACT Music 1998) was a creation by Swedish jazz musician Nils Landgren (trombone) and Esbjörn Svensson (piano).
