Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis presents a detailed analysis of the marketing techniques employed by the rapidly growing sex toy industry. Several companies are analyzed in depth with a focus on their packaging, advertising and public relations strategies. A chapter on the history of sex toys is included along with a section on the state laws regulating such products. Home party sex toy companies are examined with emphasis on the changing demographics of the sex toy user. Woman-owned sex toy stores such as Good Vibrations are studied with regards to their marketing approaches which rely on sexual education. The mainstreaming of sex products is examined, as is the lessening taboo associated with sex aids
