An Analysis of Children's Attitude Toward Parents

The effects of parental authoritarian style discipline and children's attitudes toward parents were investigated. Few deviations from traditional measures of children's attitudes were found; however, Hispanic students had more favorable attitudes toward mothers than did other ethnic groups. African Americans had the most unfavorable attitudes toward fathers of any ethnic group. In contrast, Anglo Americans manifested more favorable attitudes toward fathers than did all other respondents. There was no difference in attitudes toward parents between public and private school children. Children's perception of parents authoritarian style discipline was also investigated.
