The novels studied are La increíble y triste historia de la cándida Eréndira y de su abuela desalmada (1972) and Memoria de mis putas tristes (2004) by Gabriel García Márquez, Elogio de la madrastra (1988) and its sequel Los cuadernos de don Rigoberto (1997) by Mario Vargas Llosa, Luna Caliente (1983) by Mempo Giardinelli and Coronación (1957) by José Donoso. All the novels agree on pedophilia as the central theme. Here it is argued that the pedophilia presented in the conscious of the characters is a possible reflection of the unconscious of the authors who seek to admit such practices in the literary world through sublimation. Sublimation is characterized by the elevation of artistic material to a religious level. It is through sublimation that pedophilia rises and these practices are romanticized in novels, however, when Freudian theory is applied to the characters created by Gabriel García Márquez, Mario Vargas Llosa, José Donoso, and Mempo Giardinelli, they will reveal new and unexpected facets of the authors. A good example is a portrayal of pedophile love as a harmless even inspiring act.","abstract_html":"In this dissertation, six Latin American novels have been analyzed to show how literature represents the pedophile ideas of the characters.
