Various line pressures and distances from the nozzle were used to obtain Sauter mean drop sizes between 200 and 300 microns, and velocities between 80 and 130 m/s. Local heat flux data were collected using the temperature profile generated in the heated billet as the billet cooled from above 400° C to below 100° C. Experimental results show an increase in heat flux with increasing velocity for local mass fluxes of 34 and 53 g/cm2 s, for both maximum heat flux and for the heat flux at a surface temperature of 300° C. Also, effective heat flux decreased with increasing droplet Sauter mean diameter over the range of test conditions.","abstract_html":"The effect of drop size and drop velocity on the cooling characteristics of sprays was investigated in this study.
