By recounting historical reactions to electronic vocal technologies, exploring Wendy Carlos’ and Laura Les’ uses of these technologies in conjunction with transfemininity, and examining the evolution of Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek” as mediated by a variety of these technologies, this report demonstrates the ability of vocalic body constructions to utilize shared language for novel and insightful evaluations of vocal timbre in electronic music.
