The availability of aquatic macrophytes at Spring Lake was compared with aquatic macrophyte use by nutria to determine if they fed selectively. Three plant species comprised the bulk of the diet: coontail (Ceratophyllum demersum), hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata), and fanwort (Cabomba caroliniana).
