Ultra-wideband pre-selector filters play a vital role in current electronic warfare systems as they are expected to cover a wide passband and handle high power simultaneously. Suspended stripline filters provide a good compromise solution between size and RF performance. A systematic synthesis approach based on cascaded high-pass and low-pass sections using Chebyshev specifications was used to realise a UWB filtering response. Optimum high-pass filters were synthesised, and filters were synthesised using Z plane synthesis, with designs ranging from 2 to 13 GHz. In addition, a multilayer quasi-lumped suspended stripline filter was designed. The filters were optimized using full-wave electromagnetic simulations in CST, and the peak power-handling was obtained using Spark3D simulations. Two filter prototypes were fabricated, two filter housings were made, and they were experimentally measured. The S-parameter and group delay results were in good agreement with the simulation. Peak power was analysed, showing that the suspended stripline filter can handle high RF power levels without voltage breakdown in Spark3D.","abstract_html":"The thesis presents the design, synthesis, and measurement of high peak power ultra-wideband filters in suspended stripline.
