Donald McCullough (b. 1957) is an American composer and conductor who has made many wonderful contributions to the contemporary choral repertoire. When looking at McCullough's overall choral output, two things are immediately apparent: the strength of the texts he chooses to set, and the high quality of his music regardless of the choir's level of ability. The purpose of this study is threefold: (1) to bring about a greater awareness of his music by providing an overview of his total choral output; (2) to provide a general description of his compositional style; and (3) to provide an in-depth study of his Holocaust Cantata, which sets songs and texts written in World War II concentration camps, and Let My People Go!, which recounts the history of the Underground Railroad.
