For hundreds of years musicians have used metronomes to practice with a steady pulse and work towards rhythmic accuracy. The electronic tuner has similarly been assimilated into practice routines as readily as the metronome. Advancements in technology have provided the ability to program an electronic sound file that can be a used to assist with both rhythmic accuracy and intonation. These audio files are useful for gauging the accuracy of a performance by providing benchmarks for pitch and rhythm.
This project identifies common trombone audition repertoire, discusses the pedagogical problems associated with that repertoire, and provides sound files designed to address these concerns. These files are contained on CDs housed in the Music Library of the University of South Carolina.
