Twenty-five adults (18-40) were given a misinformation task originally used by Okado and Stark (2005), and then asked to alternate between responding deceptively and truthfully to test items shown during a fMRI scan. The results indicate that responses to misinformation items (regardless of lie or truth) showed stronger activation in the dorsal prefrontal cortex, while deceptive responses to consistent items showed stronger activation in the ventral prefrontal cortex.
