Intensity noise suppression using a semiconductor optical amplifier: characterisations and applications
Abstract
dc:description.abstractIn this thesis I present a comprehensive system-level study of the intensity noise suppression offered by a saturated semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA), and its application to high channel count spectrum-sliced and optical code division multiplexed (OCDMA) systems incorporating low-cost incoherent light sources. Preliminary investigations into incorporating a saturated SOA to reduce low frequency noise of a highly coherent fibre distributed feedback laser are also presented.
