Narrow linewidth, single-frequency fibre lasers are attractive sources for optical coherent communication, wavelength division multiplexing, optical sensors and spectroscopy, as they have kilohertz linewidths, direct compatibility with the fibre network, wavelength tunability and are simple to fabricate.
