Service-oriented grid computing in engineering optimisation and design search

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The rapid development of the Internet as well as the vast increase in computational and other resources connected to the network have led to the concept of ‘Grid computing’, which enables various innovative computational behaviours based on large-scale, dynamic and coordinated resource sharing. The unique environment and behaviour of the computational Grid have generated specific requirements for Grid technologies to bring interoperability, stability, scalability and adaptability. The emergence and maturing of the open standards based Web services technologies have addressed these requirements and provided a sound based for the development of future Grid technologies. This thesis presents research on the exploitation of Web services for Grid computing based on a Grid-enabled engineering optimisation and design search system. The work explains why service-orientation is appropriate for Grid computing, and successfully demonstrates the application of such technologies in various important areas of Grid computing. Experiences achieved through the work can also be of referential value to future attempts of Grid computing in different areas.
