Interprétation structurale des linéaments par traitement d'image satellitaire : cas des sous-provinces d'Abitibi et d'Opatica (Québec)

Over the past 30 years, the Lake Superior Structural Province has been subdivided into subprovinces according to terrain relationships (lithological, metamorphic and structuralcontrasts), absolute dating, and geophysical data interprétation. The identification and interprétation of the boundaries between subprovinces varies widely following the increased knowledge of the région. The following study presents the results of the interpretation of the lineaments within the Abitibi and Opatica Subprovinces. These results were extracted from processed satellite images and compared to geoscientific data in a geographie information system (GIS). The simple methodological approach, based on the enhancement and directional filtering of Landsat-S TM images, helped establish the lineament map of the study area. Statistical analysis of the map using directional indicators, as well as a spatial analysis, helped detect morphological différences in the linéament pattems. The southem sector of the map shows a low density of lineaments andan E-W trend. The northem and central sectors of the map show a high density of linéaments and criss-crossings with a NE-SW trend. Accordingly, the terrain can be divided into two tectonic sectors. The comparison of the results with the geoscientific data (structural, lithological, geochemical and minerai sites) in a GIS, confions the morphological difference and the territorial subdivision into two tectonic sectors corresponding to the Abitibi Subprovince in the south and Opatica Subprovince in the north, and also helped identify the boundary separating them.
