The company practiced cut-and-run policy that dictated the relocation of lumber operations when the company exhausted its timber holdings. The Pickering Lumber Company operated in Texas and Western Louisiana from 1898 to roughly 1930 when timber holdings were exhausted and financial difficulties brought on by the Great Depression required the withdrawal of the company from its mill at Haslam.
