Living Beyond Frontiers Social Network Analysis of Genoese Merchants in the Castilian Atlantic 1450-1530

This dissertation studies the role of Genoese merchants in the Castilian Atlantic from 1450- 1530. It aims to study through quantitative analysis their community, forms of association, and financial enterprises. Furthermore, it takes the study of the sugar cane production and the beginning of the transatlantic slave trade as case studies to showcase the importance of the Ligurian merchant in the late medieval and early moden African and the Atlantic history. This research employs Social Network Analysis as an essential tool and methodology in tracing commercial circuits and social relations.
