The one study involving adult cattle, conducted 25 years ago, found that 1.82 mg alpha-tocopherol/kg cow prevented the only abnormal sign, cardiac failure (29, 30). However, the vitamin E content of a stores feed diet may range from 400 mg/day to 1300 mg/day for a 500 kg animal (1). Thus it is possible that cattle fed only stored feeds for several years may become deficient in vitamin E.
