It is a devastating disease in terms of human suffering, loss of life, and the economy (Levetan & Ratner, 1995). Decreases in HbAlc in the blood are correlated with fewer complications of diabetes (Diabetes Forecast, 1993). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the results of a multidisciplinary treatment team approach to treating diabetes in adults receiving care at a midwest VA Medical Center. Changes in HbAlc and cholesterol levels over an eight week time period were measured.<br> A retrospective case-control chart review was used to compare a sample of20 subjects receiving the treatment team approach to a matched control group of 20 subjects who received traditional diabetes management. T-tests and Chi-square analyses were used to examine the statistical significance of the results. This study did not show a statistically significant difference in glycemic control in the group receiving the team approach as compared to the control group.
