Hens produced by the previous year's control group received 0, 6, 8, or 12 mg of dieldrin per week for 14 weeks. Hens from treated groups received 0 or 6 mg per week. Effects of dieldrin were evaluated by influences upon reproductive success. Mortality occurred in all groups receiving dieldrin, and appeared to be correlated with a reduction in egg production. Dieldrin lowered egg production by reducing food consumption in the 12 mg group and two groups which were offspring of 6 mg birds. °Fertility and hatchability of eggs were significantly lower in groups where the hen had received dieldrin residues via the egg. Limited observations were also made on effects of dieldrin on behavior.
