George Whitefield's theology and methodology of evangelism

This dissertation examines George Whitefield's theology and methodology of evangelism and draws conclusions regarding the relationship between them. Chapter 1 presents the research question. This section also presents information regarding background and methodology for the dissertation. Chapter 2 describes the historical and theological context of England and the American colonies during the eighteenth century. Attention is given to the state of the Church in England and in America. Chapter 3 analyzes George Whitefield's theology of evangelism. It presents information regarding his theological beliefs related to sources of authority, Calvinism, the doctrines of grace, universal invitations, and the Great Commission. Chapter 4 examines Whitefield's methodology of evangelism. It includes an analysis of the English itinerant's evangelistic preaching, personal evangelism efforts, and his follow up methodology. Chapter 5 presents conclusions regarding George Whitefield's theology and methodology of evangelism. It presents information regarding the relationship between the itinerant's theology and methodology of evangelism. This chapter also includes areas needing further study and a section applying some aspects of the itinerant's theology and methodology of evangelism to the contemporary context.
