Necesidades de apoyo en personas con enfermedad mental grave y carga familiar en cuidadores primarios de México

[EN] The methodological approach of this PhD thesis has been a concurrent mixed method research. We show three consecutive stages of work that we can characterize the supports and the load through a process that began with the adaptation of the Supports Intensity Scale (SIS) for the Mexican population affected by severe mental illness. This adaptation has allowed the subsequent application of the scale to a larger sample of primary caregivers. Second cargo identified primary caregivers of people with severe mental illness through two instruments: the Zarit burden to identify and scale of social networks, to analyze the possible moderating role of social-contextual variables. Third, through techniques and tools we have collected qualitative data to explore individual and contextual variables of the study population, in light of the three major theoretical framework for this work: social model of disability, quality of life and intensity of support. Psychometric analysis confirm the robustness and cultural value of the intensity scale of support. The intensity levels of support and perceived burden are identified predominantly low contributing factors explain this context. Social networks of caregivers are significantly and inversely associated with support from health services.
