No single solution is likely to resolve it; indeed, many local problems will only be solved through local solutions, addressed to the specific needs of the community. The search for viable options must be wide-ranging and nothing can be deemed too far-fetched to be considered. This thesis examines the sustainability of floating communities (FCs) using the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and associated Targets to provide factual support for those who are looking at Float Homes (FHs) and FCs as one of those options. The study used a comparative case study approach using document analysis of a representative sample of FCs throughout the world, to assess how effectively each met five applicable SDGs and their relevant targets. The research led to findings indicating that each case study exhibited sustainability traits, albeit different such traits, and to differing degrees.
