Project Work-From-Home Parent

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

AbstractThis thesis explores how healthcare organizations can facilitate a work-life balance (WLB) for parents who work from home (WFH). The study focuses on female healthcare workers with dependents aged 15 and younger in a private healthcare organization. Employing action research influenced by appreciative inquiry and incorporating principles of positive organizational development, the study employed surveys, interviews, and a focus group to investigate WFH parents' WLB strategies. The research adhered to the Royal Roads University Research Ethics Policy. Key findings highlight the benefits of WFH, such as improved WLB, increased family involvement, and flexibility. However, challenges must be addressed, including work-life boundaries, lack of support, and isolation. Flexibility emerged as a critical factor, and organizations are encouraged to implement flexible work arrangements, support resources, and open communication to enhance WLB. The study underscores the importance of trust, positive management, and unstructured flex time to ensure success. Strategies developed by WFH parents, such as clear communication and dedicated workspaces, offer valuable insights. In conclusion, this study emphasizes the complex nature of WFH on WLB, urging proactive measures to mitigate challenges and foster work-life integration for WFH parents in healthcare organizations.
