The analysis uses the full dataset recorded by the CMS detector during the 2015, sqrt(s) = 13 TeV, proton-proton data taking campaign of 2.83 fb^−1 to search for new, possibly long-lived, light bosons with a mass between 0.25 - 8.5 GeV/c^2. No excess beyond the Standard Model expectation is observed in the data, and a model-independent upper limit is set on the product of the cross section of the production of new light bosons in proton-proton collisions, the branching fraction of a new light boson decaying to muon pairs, and the detector acceptance. The result is interpreted in the context of two illustrative benchmark scenarios: the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model, and dark supersymmetry. A large, previously unconstrained, area of the parameter space is limited.","abstract_html":"A topological search for new beyond the Standard Model light bosons decaying into muon pairs with the CMS detector at the CERN LHC is presented.
