The development of a periodic loading apparatus for triaxial testing
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis dissertation is concerned with the development of a periodic loading apparatus for testing soil specimens under triaxial loading conditions. To attain this objective an intensive survey of the literature has been conducted in order to evaluate the characteristics of similar apparatus developed in the past. In the light of the experiences of others, a new design is proposed which will enable most effectively the study of the behavior of soil specimens under periodic loading conditions. The proposed apparatus is quite versatile. It is possible to apply a periodic deviator stress as well as a periodic confining stress and to vary the pattern of stress applications quite readily. The same apparatus could be utilized to test soil samples under static triaxial loading conditions also.
