Basic relation for the recovery of oil by steam application to an oil and hot water system
Abstract
dc:description.abstractA system of equations describing the general behavior of a "steam flood" or oil displacement by means of steam in a homogeneous, one-dimensional non-capillary model formation is here derived. An aspect of the steam flood is the displacement of oil by hot water after the steam has condensed. An example of this hot water displacement was solved numerically for typical reservoir conditions. Heat losses to the overlying and underlying formations were included, and certain simplifying assumptions were made to facilitate numerical treatment of the problem by the method of characteristics. General trends of the dependence of temperature and water saturation on time and distance in the direction of flow were determined.
