Stability of one-dimensional waves in layered media

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

This thesis presents an interpretation of a result on the stability of waves in layered media with respect to Webster's horn equation and travel-time velocity as a parameter The stability property of waves is related to the forward map. It is known that the forward map as a function of the vertical wave velocity is not locally Lipschitz continuous. This thesis describes a proof that the forward map as a function of the travel tine velocity is Lipschitz continuous, and even differentiable.
