Digital Vehicle Inspection

Abstract

dc:description.abstract

The project is a digital vehicle inspection system for Toyota Iceland. Its purpose is to replace paper inspection checklists with a web-based system where vehicle inspections can be completed, stored, reviewed, and traced digitally. The system has two main parts. The mobile interface is used by inspectors while they are working around a vehicle. They can open an inspection, go through checklist sections, mark inspection items, add notes, attach photos, and submit the inspection when it is finished. The portal interface is used on desktop to manage and review the wider system. It includes views for inspections, vehicles, users, and inspection templates. The main value of the system is that inspection results are no longer lost on paper. Each inspection is connected to a vehicle, a template, checklist responses, timestamps, and photo evidence. This gives Toyota Iceland a searchable digital record of vehicle condition, which is useful for quality control, follow-up work, and disputes about damage or vehicle information. A key feature is the template system. Instead of hardcoding inspection forms, templates can be created and managed through the portal. This means Toyota Iceland can update future inspection forms without changing the code, while older inspections still keep the structure they were originally completed with. Technically, the project is a full-stack web application. The frontend is built with Next.js and React, the backend with FastAPI, the database with PostgreSQL, and photos are stored in Azure Blob Storage. The system also includes authentication, role-based access control, department scoping, and deployment to Microsoft Azure.
