Design of a smart fishing rod

Sport fishing has been practiced for decades and has grown in popularity over the time. However, even with the growing popularity, the technology of the fishing rods has remained stagnant. This was something that the startup company Nordic Angling sought to fix by introducing the internet of things to the realm of fishing. This was to be done by designing the worlds first Smartrod, which is the subject of this thesis.\\ This thesis focuses on designing a system which can measure the bend of a fishing rod using three dimensional tracking, while simultaneously not changing the physical workings of the rod itself. This system can then serve as a working prototype for Nordic Angling. The process includes careful component selection, circuit design, PCB assembly, programming as well as testing and evaluation.
