However, it is still unclear which antidepressant or dosage is best suited to which patient. This dissertation shows that the use of pharmacogenetics (treatment based on DNA) has the potential to improve the treatment of depression in both the area of antidepressant choice and the dosage of the drugs. Specifically, we see that combinations of DNA modifications can be predictive of the treatment effect of antidepressants in patients with psychotic depression. From the clinical study PITA (Pharmacogenetics for Individualized Tricyclic Antidepressant dosing) we learned that the use of a pharmacogenetic test for determining the dosage of tricyclic antidepressants ensures that patients reach a therapeutic level earlier.","Radboud University, 15 april 2025","Promotores : Schellekens, A.F.A., Aarnoutse, R.E.
