However, some clients face problems for which spoken language is not the right entry point for change. In this PhD thesis, we show that you can make use of people's natural movements. For instance, some people are fast in their movements, while others are slow. When people with a similar movement speed interact, this creates a pleasant feeling of contact and a sense of togetherness and connection. We see that clients' movements do not always match those of the people around them. As a result, they miss this feeling of pleasant contact. One solution to this mismatch is for the counsellor to adjust their movement speed to that of the client. Based on ten cases, we show that this mode of intervention leads to a decrease in problems and an increase in pleasant contact with the environment. In this PhD thesis, we describe characteristics of movements that allow you, as a counsellor, to influence your clients’ behaviour.","Radboud University, 20 februari 2024","Promotor : Bosman, A.M.T.
