Philosophical and sociological perspectives on social work: towards some new understandings of research and practice
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe thesis contains the following required areas: a curriculum vitae, a section comprising letters of verification from co-authors, a commentary showing how the published works meet the academic criteria set out in the University's Postgraduate Regulations, and reproduced, selected published works. Twenty two publications were included covering a period of twenty years. The collective works have a common thread of applying either social theory or philosophy (or both) to aspects of social work research or practice. The published works are written for both an academic and professional audience with an emphasis of making abstruse theory relevant and concrete for the everyday practitioner. Generally, the publications develop a critical appreciation of contemporary society and fit within an anti-oppressive perspective.
