Furthermore, no porous liquids have previously been explored to perform liquid-liquid separations. Hydrophobic Type 3 porous liquids were developed for liquid-liquid separation specifically mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) from water. The MEG adsorption ability of Type 3 porous liquids was also compared to the common liquid separation technique (solvent extraction). In the end, the compressibility of Type 3 porous liquid based on hydrophobic porous solids were discussed in this thesis. The compressible liquid showed much higher compressibility than seen in conventional liquids.
