Different communities have different cultural practices they participate in. Children who form part of these communities are also expected to take part. Some of these practices are harmful to children. This is a human rights issue, given the clash between children’s rights and the right to participate in one’s cultural activities. This is a widely recognised fact. For this reason, the law protects children in this regard.
