Examining the culture of British South Asians and its impact on sports participation

Abstract

dc:description

This research looks at the culture of British South Asians and its impact on sports participation, utilising a multiple method approach that combines both semi-structured interviews and questionnaires. This study aims to understand the unique cultural factors that influence sports engagement among British South Asians in particular British Pakistanis, highlighting both their barriers and facilitators to sport participation. Through qualitative interviews with participants from British South Asian heritage and qualitative data collected from questionnaires, this research provides a comprehensive analysis of the attitudes towards sports within this demographic. Findings reveal that cultural identity, family expectations, and community support play significant roles in shaping sports participation. The insights gained from this study contribute to the development of targeted initiatives that promote inclusivity and enhance sports participation for British South Asians, ultimately fostering greater participation in physical activities.
