Access to Alternative Income Generation Activity among Commercial Sex Workers the Case of Kibondo Town Kigoma Tanzania

Objective of this project study is to access the alternative Income Generation Activity among Commercial Sex Workers in Kibondo Town. The study aims at exploring sexual pattern among sex workers, bar maids, Guest House attendants and Hotel attendants, and how sexual behavior influence individual social and economic aspects and the way it contribute to Commercial sex works. Finally the study will discuss the alternative ways to commercial sex work among women depending on commercial sex. The assessment in the community was conducted using participatory appraisal, this enables and empowers members of local communities generate and analyze data relating to their own situation, then come up with suggestion and actions aimed to improve the situation. The tools used are FGD, interviews, participatory observation and pair wise ranking. The community identified poverty as the main causes of women to engage in commercial sex. They come out with suggestions to intervene the situation by inclusion of women in economic activities through empowerment with local capital formation, entrepreneurship and business skills. The project was implemented by organizing 3 groups of women of between 7 - 8 members and training them with Entrepreneurship and Business skills. The findings show women are eager in exploiting opportunities availed to them by the government, financial instructions or agencies providing them expertise to extricate themselves from various challenges they face including poverty.
