The present dissertation focusses on psychoacoustics and investigates two aspects of temporal processing in the mouse, a) the ability to discriminate signals of different duration (duration discrimination), and b) the ability to exploit correlated amplitude fluctuations in a noise masker to enhance signal detection (comodulation masking release, CMR). The results of the duration discrimination experiments are compared with the results of physiological recordings in the mouse (Brand et al. 2000), and the most likely mechanisms to explain the findings are discussed.
