Bio-optische Modellierung des pelagischen Ökosystems nördlich der Kanarischen Inseln
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe investigation of marine primary production plays a key role in researching the global carbon cycle. Based on results from several cruises the hydrographical, biological and optical situation north of the Canary Islands is presented and compared with previous published results. Light is a primary factor for growth in pelagic ecosystems. The comparison of different descriptions of photosynthetically available radiation (PAR) and their influence on a 1-dimensional physical-biological model at the station ESTOC underlines the important role of optical parameters. It is shown that for different PAR descriptions there is only a small variability in annual primary production but a pronounced change in the vertical distribution of phytoplankton in the water column.
