Modelling the marine boundary layer for offshore wind power utilisation
Abstract
dc:description.abstractFor planning and operation of offshore wind farms a profound knowledge of the meteorological conditions is indispensable. This thesis is concerned with modelling the structure of the marine atmospheric boundary layer, with focus on effects, which are important for wind resource assessment. Data from the offshore measurement program Rodsand in the Danish Baltic Sea have been used for the analysis. The core of the work is the investigation of different micrometeorological models for the marine atmospheric boundary layer in the coastal zone: The possibility and significance of extending the Charnock relation to a wave field dependent sea surface roughness has been studied. The influence of thermal effects of the land-sea discontinuity on the vertical wind speed profile has been investigated. The different models have than been used in a test application to extrapolate the wind speed from 10 m to 50 m height. They have also been compared with the standard resource assessment program WAsP.
