Role of disaffiliation from fundamentalism and authoritarian religions on mental health
Abstract
dc:description.abstractReligious disaffiliates are the fastest growing religious group in the United States (Gallup, 2021). Religious fundamentalism and authoritarianism are often found in very conservative religious groups. This study sought to understand the relationship between religious disaffiliation, authoritarianism, and religious fundamentalism on current psychological wellbeing. Pearson correlations and a multiple linear regression failed to find a significant relationship between each of these variables. It is important to proceed with caution in the treatment of psychological distress when evaluating the role of religious disaffiliation.
