Writing and Differance, Violence in Language: Finding the Roots of Oppression and Violence in Derrida's <i>Of Grammatology</i>

Derrida's most well known theoretical work<i> Of Grammatology </i>often comes under fire from critics as being "frivolous," "playful," or "playing language games." In my thesis I will argue that this is a misinterpretation of Derrida's work, exploring the implications of the his concept of arche-violence, and the role the originary violence of language plays in oppression. Exploring various theoretical schools of thought from a Derridean lens, I will highlight the ways that arche-violence poses a real problem in the lives of oppressed peoples
