"Effects of nonthermal plasma on prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells"

Abstract

dc:description

Plasma science has been of particular interest to researchers spanning several disciplines since the 1990s. This continuously evolving field allows investigations into a diverse series of applications including industrial sterilization, pollution control, polymer science, food safety, and biomedicine. The capacity to harness highly charged particles and UV light created from electrified gases (also known as plasma) begs analysis of the product spectrum resulting from each gas or their combinations. The discharge profile of a novel nonthermal plasma generator was evaluated in great detail in this dissertation, including its composition, physical characteristics, and effects on biological specimens. Nonthermal plasma was found to have significant effects on cellular physiology. Plasma-mediated germicide in prokaryotic cells and stimulatory and proliferative effects in eukaryotic cells were determined to be dose-dependent phenomena.
