Daydreams

<p>I wanted to make large platters using porcelain, addressing my experiences and personifications of social media and pop culture by illustrating them, using sgraffito, and a pallet of colored slips. Social media websites such as Facebook, twitter and countless message boards give us an opportunity to reinvent ourselves into something else more idealistic on a massive scale. Being a product of the internet and technological phenomena, I have an interest in the influence social media has affected mine and current generations, allowing us to hide our faults, personify others and exaggerate truths.</p><p>I always find some kind of enjoyment reading through social networking and media sites because of the ability to assume a persona that is different than reality. One could, in fact, be, or make themselves into, anything. There exist many twitter accounts and Facebook pages where one would assume the role of The Universe, Will Smith (which are actually photos and movies starring Samuel L. Jackson). People create accounts from random statements such as “you&rsquo;re one year older than me, stop treating me like a five year old”, or even something broad and edible like, “food&rdquo;. I find these creations as a way for individuals to express their humor on a grand scale, and get some type of personal gratification for the jokes provided. Aside from the hilarity that is pre-packaged with these types of accounts, what I enjoy most is dissecting personal posts and accounts of people I have personal relationships with, creating my own visions of them from theirs. I have a very intense imagination and tend to create something that may be way off the wall than what was originally intended to the masses.</p>
