Abstract
dc:descriptionThis research is primarily focused on combining the techniques of Image processing (Super Resolution) with Image compression. Historically, Joint Photographic Experts Group 2000 (JPEG2000) image compression and multiframe Super Resolution (SR) image processing techniques have evolved separately. In this research, we propose and compare novel processing architectures for applying multiframe SR with JPEG2000 compression. We focus on the adaptive wiener filter (AWF) method of SR and study the SR performance as JPEG2000 is incorporated in different ways. In particular, we perform compression prior to SR and compare this to compression after SR. We also compare independent frame compression with difference frame compression. We find that the effects of compression can be reduced by increasing the signal-to-noise ratio in the correlation model for the AWF SR method, providing a novel approach to treating the compression artifacts. The experimental results include the use of simulated imagery for quantitative analysis. We also include real video results for subjective analysis. A chirp pattern is included in the scene to aid in the subjective analysis with regard to resolution and aliasing.
