HeartLander Surgical Feasibility and Commercialization

Abstract

dc:description

It is shown that ventricular tachycardia ablation via the HeartLander Surgical robot is a commercially feasible method for relieving patients from arrhythmia symptoms. HeartLander’s technology meets significant market needs presented by the 450,000 sudden cardiac deaths each year; many were patients for whom ablation was not an option. HeartLander’s robotic platform provides significant benefits per cost savings for hospitals and insurance companies, and significantly reduces VT ablation procedure times. HeartLander’s product shows the potential for both commercial and academic impact by revolutionizing epicardial access. Device and procedural specifications along with the underlying physics of needle ablation prove the feasibility of the technology. The regulatory hurdles, human use, and milestones for scaling up to clinical trials are all addressed in the commercialization of the surgical platform. Beyond the indicated use of VT ablation, HeartLander can look toward existing practices and developing regenerative therapies for expanding its customer base.
