However, increasing evidence indicates that children and adolescents worldwide, including in Singapore, do not meet dietary and activity behaviour guidelines. Recent evidence suggests that school-based interventions should be multi-component to be effective in changing lifestyle behaviours. However, there is little information on the development, implementation, and feasibility in Asia and Singapore, constraining the adaptation of existing interventions to the local context. This thesis presents the development, implementation, and feasibility evaluation of Promoting hEalthy Diet and Active Lifestyle (PEDAL), a theory-based, multicomponent, school-based pilot intervention to improve diet and activity behaviours (including physical activity and sedentary behaviour) among early adolescents in Singapore. This research comprises three phases: intervention development, exploration of PEDAL’s implementation and programme theory, and evaluation of its feasibility and potential effectiveness.","abstract_html":"Adolescence is a key window of opportunity for establishing healthy lifestyle habits, and habits formed during this period can carry over into adulthood.
